Brasília conquered the title of America’s Culture Capital of 2008 during the 20th birthday cerimony of its title as Unesco’s World Heritage, last december, in the National Museum. The title was granted by the Organizacion Capital Americana de La Cultura (CAC), and the Organization of American States (OAS). This title will take the young capital to follow the historical city of Cuzco-Peru as a world reference of the Americas, starting January 1st, 2008.
The tribute comes at a happy time, once it will join together the realization of the I International Biennial of Poetry in Brasilia (I IBP), where 72 invited countries will be represented by poets, and others from elsewhere in Brasil. The wolrd’s recognition of Brasília as a cultural spot will allow the disclosure of its images and touristic atraction around the globe.
In the US and Europe there will be exhibitions of films about Brasilia, via Discovery Channel (US) and Antena 3 (Spain). In Athens, information about Brasilia will be available via the International Center of Documentation on Cultural Capitals, to be inaugurated in 2008.
